The meaning Of Culture

Happy Heritage day to my fellow South Africans!
I haven't been doing any personal posts but since I have been laying off posting these pictures I thought it would be fitting to do it today: Heritage day.
Why didn't I post them a month a go when I created them? Because I was ashamed. Ashamed that they did not look like art but messy. I realized that art is a means of expression, and whatever it is you create, whatever has meaning to you, that is art.
So, I owe a lot of that to my cultural upbringing, my heritage which I am the most proud of. I hope these images resonate with most of you. They are unconventional but I hope at least one person out there,"gets it".
Enjoy.

Desertion : A Collaboration

Photos taken by Gabriella Achadinha in Cape Town.

Desertion is defined as a state of being absent without letting anyone know. A sense of wanting to get away to be on your own.
This is what I feel when I look at the beautiful scenery in the photographs. A hidden paradise where we adventured wearing my tribal print. A secret far away place to be creative.

Gaitsedi (sibling) : An Ode to Unorthodox Sisterhood.

I have always wanted to do a collaboration with my sister,  someone who I think complements my being more than anynody else.

This photo series is inspired by our unusual closeness besides our vast differences (she being the scientist and me the writer), this is also an appreciation post, to all my sisters and your sisters who continue to build you. We need more relationships like this and I realise how lucky I am to have a sister like Fikile. I am forever bound to her, just as I am to my African Tswana heritage which you get a hint of in the colour of the fabric.

Music - Petite Noir - Best (Official Video)

My friends make a cameo in what I would call a breakthrough for South Africa in terms of music and creativity. A hauntingly beautiful mix of Afrofuterism and cool. Beautiful.
